Qualifying for the Rescue

Qualifying for the Rescue

I would like to talk to you about three spiritual laws God has given to purify our lives.  If we are going to reach out to others and rescue them, we need to be at a place spiritually where we can lift them.  These three laws have nothing to do with money, but have everything to do with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Living these three laws faithfully will put us in a position to lift others.

The Law of the Fast: “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).  A person who can discipline himself to fast regularly in the manner the Lord has taught can resist every temptation, overcome every burden and be freed from the yoke that binds him. If a person fasts appropriately and regularly he can overcome any bad habit, sin, or addiction that afflicts his life (see Isaiah 58:6).

The Law of the Fast:

The Law of Fast Offerings:  “And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday” (Isaiah 58:10).  Not only does the Lord promise the power to overcome all of our sins, he also promises light, health, and righteousness in our lives. As with the children of Israel, He promises that His glory will surround and protect us (see Isaiah 58:8).

The Law of Fast Offerings:

The Law of Tithing:  “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3:10).  This promise is fulfilled every time a person obeys this law. The windows of heaven will be open every time we pay an honest tithe.  This is the law.  It doesn’t matter who we are, because God does not make exception of persons.

The Law of Tithing:

I testify that “There is a law, irrevocably decreed in heaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all blessings are predicated—and when we obtain any blessing from God, it is by obedience to that law upon which it is predicated” (D&C 130:20-21).

As you keep these laws, I promise you that you will have the necessities to sustain life, that the Holy Ghost will give you direction, and that the windows of heaven will be open for you and your families.  God wants to bless you.  He will bless you, and you will have power to rescue others. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
