Stake Guidelines: Week-Long Activities

Activities for the Week-Long Celebration

#BFF FamCon: Family Conversations

A daily magazine show with fun segments and meaningful discussions on issues and concerns facing the Filipino family today hosted by celebrity Latter-day Saint couple Erick and Rhona Tai. They will be joined by teen actress Xia Vigor and Sister Diane Cruz, an Area Organization Adviser and a Family Life and Child Development expert.

Localized Social Media Campaigns

A week’s worth of special Family Week features will be published on the official Facebook page of the Church. Members of the Church are encouraged to share the promotional posts and invite their friends to watch. Stakes and districts are encouraged to come up with local social media campaigns to encourage members and their friends to watch the online shows. Daily tasks and challenges are issued, like invitations to post photos of their family’s activities along with the official hashtags to increase engagement.

Culminating Activities

Local priesthood leaders and stake/district communication representatives are expected to continue the practice of organizing National Family Week events to cap the week by collaborating with community partners, the local government unit (LGU) Family Week Committee, and interfaith partners.

In Davao, members are looking forward to multi-stake Family Week celebrations every year. They are excited not only to celebrate families, but also to continue the camaraderie with partner agencies they have developed through the years. Church leaders have gained new friends from the community through family week activities and existing friendships are deepened. In collaboration with the Davao City local government; national agencies like the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos and the Department of Social Welfare and Development; and oversight government agencies like the Mindanao Peace Council and Mindanao Coalition on Children's Rights, the culminating event this year will be a repeat of last year’s highly successful fun run. More than a thousand members and friends of the Church attended last year’s event, and it was featured on PTV 4, various social media platforms and other Davao City news outlets. (From a report by Sister Jade DC Abadia, Davao Communication Council)

In Kalibo, Aklan, culminating activities are held in individual wards. Local congregations hold parades, games, Zumba parties, family home evening activities, and variety shows with talent presentations. By having these activities in the ward level, the presence of the Church and its members is noticed and appreciated better by the community. More community partners are reached and more meaningful relationships with those not of our faith are established.  (From a report by Darwin Tapayan, Kalibo Stake Communication Director)

In Urdaneta, Pangasinan, the usual excitement of members to celebrate National Family Week increased exponentially now that the Urdaneta Temple is open! The stake-wide culminating activity where all wards are well-represented will be held again, with great support from the LGU and opinion leaders from other community partners. Last year, aside from the fun activities, a luncheon with representatives from the interfaith community, the academe, LGUs and NGOs. One of the speakers, Human Resources Specialist Sherill O. Corgio, was impressed by the Church teachings on the family. She decided to learn more and was baptized two months later! The positive impact of Family Week activities in the community paved the way for smoother preparations for the opening of the temple.
