My desire to serve a mission began when I was in Primary, especially whenever we sang the song “I Want to Be a Missionary Now.” From a young age, I looked forward to the day when I could wear a name tag and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
Because of that desire, I tried to prepare myself. I studied the scriptures, attended youth activities, fulfilled my callings, and worked closely with the missionaries whenever I had the opportunity. I always looked forward to serving alongside them. The way they taught the gospel, helped people overcome challenges, and shared the Savior’s love with genuine smiles inspired me and strengthened my desire to serve.
One of the most meaningful experiences of my mission took place in Maragusan, my first area. At that time, it was still a group with an average sacrament meeting attendance of about 19 people, including the missionaries. My trainer, Elder De Guzman, and I prayerfully made plans to strengthen the group and increase participation with the help of members.
As we worked together with faith and unity, we witnessed the Lord's hand in the work. Through the combined efforts of missionaries and members, the group continued to grow. On April 6, 2025, it officially became a branch. Before I was transferred, average sacrament meeting attendance had increased to around 60 people. Seeing that growth strengthened my testimony that when we labor diligently and trust the Lord, He magnifies our efforts.
Even after I left the area, I continued to see the fruits of those labors. Members of the Gahum family, whom we had helped reactivate, continued progressing on the covenant path. Some of them were eventually married and baptized, together with others who were taught by the missionaries who served there after us.
One of the greatest blessings was having the opportunity to attend their marriage after my transfer. It was a joyful experience to witness how the Lord continued to bless them.
Experiences like these remind me that missionary work is truly the Lord’s work. We may not always see the full results of our efforts immediately, but He allows us to witness miracles in His own time.
I often reflect on the lyrics of the song “One Soul,” which have given me strength throughout my mission:
“’Cause this work was meant for you.
And if no one wants to listen,
That’s not how your journey ends.
Just keep moving on,
And you can’t go wrong,
Like the Savior always said.”
Those words remind me that our responsibility is to keep moving forward in faith. We plant seeds, nurture them with love, and trust the Lord to provide the increase.
When you face rejection or discouragement, do not lose heart. Remember that no effort is wasted and the Lord values every sincere act of service. You have done your part, and He will do the rest.
Think of the smiles, the strengthened families, and the changed lives that come because the gospel was shared. Isn't that wonderful?
I know that Jesus Christ lives and directs His work. As we trust Him, continue forward with faith, and serve with all our hearts, we will witness miracles along the way.
