As I have drawn closer to Jesus Christ and strengthened my commitment to the covenants I have made with Him, I have come to better understand what it means to help build Zion.
I remember being inspired by Elder Quentin L. Cook's invitation to help build a Zion people who are 'of one heart and one mind.' That vision became real to me through the example of faithful missionaries in my ward. Their love and devotion to the Savior helped me feel the spirit of Zion and inspired me to share the love of Jesus Christ with others.
I had desired to serve a mission since I was young, but it was as I deepened my relationship with the Savior that my desire grew stronger. I came to know that the joy I had found through the gospel was something worth sharing. I wanted others to experience the peace, hope, and blessings that come from following Jesus Christ.
One of the most meaningful lessons I have learned as a missionary is that faith is not only a feeling—it is also a choice. There have been moments when I felt tired, discouraged, or uncertain. During those times, I remembered my purpose as a disciple of Jesus Christ and chose to trust the Lord. As I exercised faith and moved forward, I witnessed His strength helping me accomplish more than I could on my own.
Through missionary service, I have gained a stronger testimony that the Lord guides His work. He knows His children, and He invites each of us to participate in gathering Israel and helping others come unto Christ. Although we may sometimes feel inadequate or unprepared, the Lord can magnify our efforts as we trust Him.
I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know He loves His children and invites all to come unto Him. As we choose faith, follow His guidance, and participate in His work, we can witness miracles, feel the influence of the Holy Ghost, and experience the joy that comes from helping others draw closer to the Savior.
